Carbon County’s right-wing extremist Republican group again meets, indulging in the usual fear mongering, misinformation and misinterpretation of U.S. history…

More can be found in the Carbon County News article. There was the usual ” sky is falling” drama in their opposition to the significantly revenue generating recreational marijuana establishments approved by Montana voters (funny how the local group obsesses about marijuana, but never mentions bars). Apparently afraid to use last names and be called out for their extremism, one of the attendees pushed the treasonous idea of “nullification,” going so far as to mention Thomas Jefferson while failing to mention context and ignoring the fact that most leaders in early America opposed the idea. Public education was attacked, as was Montana’s environment, with the group attacking protecting our environment by attacking state agencies such as the DEQ, and spreading the lie that new mines cannot be opened in Montana. Of course, there was the usual obsession with the voter fraud nothingburger and the minimizing of the January 6 terrorist insurrection attack on our Capitol. The efforts of the Red Lodge City Council to set financial responsibility, safety and lawfulness standards for special events were also attacked. We’re assuming some of the folks there cared about the truth, science, facts, public safety, law enforcement and our democracy, but they sure weren’t mentioned in the article.
