In the 12/29/22 Carbon County News, Mandeville says the budget surplus is “largely from higher than expected income tax collections.” What he fails to mention is that much of the surplus is due to federal COVID relief dollars and higher tax collections due to higher income individuals moving to Montana. Let’s give credit where credit is due and thank Congress for helping us out. And before we start cutting sorely needed programs and state agency budgets, and cutting taxes on the wealthy, let’s remember that those higher income individuals can and should pay more. Everyone needs to pay their fair share towards making a better society. A good read here, too…
